Welcome to "Liz at 50". As Liz gets ready to celebrate her 50th birthday in South Africa, her friends wanted an opportunity to reflect on the memorable years they have known her. Celebrating at the Cape of Good Hope has been Liz's life-long dream.
From Liz
There's an old proverb that says you can't choose your family.
You take what the fates hand you and like them or not, love them or not, understand them or not, you cope.
Then there's the school of thought that says the family you're born into is simply a starting point. They feed you and clothe you and take care of you until you are ready to go out into the world and find your tribe.- Grey's Anatomy 2006
I have found my tribe. Thanks for being a part of it. -Liz
About Liz
Fifty years ago in Kingston, Jamaica, a bouncing baby girl, Elizabeth, was born to Stafford and Edna Owen. She attended Meadowbrook Prep School and St. Hugh's High School. She later studied at St. John's College in England. Most of her long-lasting friendships began in elementary and high school. She could always be heard from a mile away chatting up an audience in St. Hugh's school cafeteria. After many years in Maryland, she moved west to California where she opened and successfully ran the Jamaica Cafe, a Caribbean restaurant in Santa Monica. She headed back east to be closer to family and friends and now lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida, with her husband, Steve. "Friendship is unnecessary, like philosophy, like art... It has no survival value; rather is one of those things that give value to survival." - C. S. Lewis
